The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults National College Scholarship Program was established to support the financial needs of young adults whose lives have been impacted by cancer and are seeking a higher education. The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults does not discriminate on the basis of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, marital status, or disability; howerver, some of our services may have eligibility requirements within one or more of these categories.

There are five competitive scholarship awards.  Please pay careful attention to the criteria for each award, as the eligibility requirements for the individual scholarships may vary.  Applicants may apply for only one award.

Young Adult cancer survivors may apply for one of the following scholarship awards:

  • Matt Stauffer Memorial Scholarship Award
  • Maryland Community Scholars Award (Maryland residents only)
  • Vera Yip Memorial Scholarship Award

Young Adults who have a parent with cancer or have lost a parent to cancer may apply for:

  • Marilyn Yetso Memorial Scholarship Award
  • Barbara Palo Foster memorial Scholarship Award
  • Vera Yip Memorial Scholarship Award

These competitive scholarships are awarded to the most qualified applicants who best demonstrate:

  • Dedication to community service
  • Commitment to educational and professional goals
  • Use of their cancer experience to impact the lives of other young adults affected by cancer
  • Medical hardship
  • Financial need

In keeping with our founders' vision of serving the often unmet needs of young adults living with cancer, the UCF does not offer scholarships to young adult childhood cancer survivors through this program. Those persons who were diagnosed with cancer before the age of 15, that have had no other diagnoses after the age of 15, are not eligible to apply.
