In the Spring of 2009, The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults partnered with the Soccer Association of Columbia (SAC) to introduce the inaugural season of the Cancer Socks program. Cancer Socks provided the youth soccer clubs with a vehicle to raise awareness and funds to support the cancer fight in Howard County, Maryland.
The SAC teams raised $10,000 to benefit young adults impacted by cancer in our community. A portion of the funds were used to develop a new support group, TEENS TOGETHER. This group provides teenagers who have been affected by the diagnosis of a parent an platform to give and receive support.
The Spring 2011 Cancer Socks campaign began on April 22, 2011 and ended on June 13, 2011. Each team that raised $200 received a pair of YELLOW socks for every team member. Teams that raised $1,500 received Under Armour backpacks, and the team that raised the most funds won cleats for every team member. On June 11, 2011, we asked all teams to celebrate and raise awareness for young adult cancer by dressing in ALL YELLOW. MONDAY, JUNE 13, 2011 was the last day online donations were accepted.
Please contact Kyle Lubrano (kyle@ulmanfund.org) if you are interested in participating in CANCER SOCKS or would like your sports league to partner with UCF to develop a CANCER SOCKS program.
