What a great site! Thank you for connecting young adults with cancer, I think that is so important. I was diagnosed last year when I was 22 years old with tongue cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) which is very rare for a non-smoking, non-tobacco chewing college girl. I was in my last semester of college. I moved home immediately and had 3 tongue surgeries. I then started radiation. In the 4th week we found out the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes in my neck. Chemo was then added to the treatment plan. After that I had neck surgery and did rehabilitative speech and physical therapy. I thought it was over and interviewed and got my first teaching job. My first week of school I found out that the cancer was back and had spread to my lung. This past September I had lung surgery and just had my second clean scan! Hopefully it is over, but as well all know, we just live from scan to scan :-) I would love to find someone that has had a similar experience!

Tori was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in April 2003. Attending college away from home, she traveled to all of her appointments alone, including a lengthy drive each month to see a specialist. Toni’s health and emotional well-being deteriorated, and she returned home to recover. On her arrival, she cared for her sister, who suffers from MS, and began working at a daycare facility. Tori found within herself a sense of empathy and determination she didn’t realize she possessed before her diagnosis, and she continually strives to instill all she’s gained in others. Read Tori's story and more at The Voices of Survivorship.
